Scanning of OMR Sheets

Scanning of OMR Sheets is a little different from normal sheet scanning. An OMR sheet is a technical format which is going to be read by a software or a machine. So for an image to be readable by the OMR scanning software or OMR scanning machine, it is required that the sheets are scanned according to some guidelines.

Different methods used for scanning OMR Answer Sheets

Most people still have an impression that the main task of OMR reading is done by a special Optical Mark Reader Device popularly known as OMR scanning machine or OMR Scanner. But this was old technology and is very costly. This old machine based scanning has changed long back and is replaced by the OMR Sheet Scanner Software.

So there are two types of OMR Solutions available:

1. Simple Image Scanner + OMR Reader and Result Processing Software
2. Costly OMR Reader Scanner + Custom Result Processing Software

• You can work with any regular scanner, use any brand, any model of Flatbed or Automatic (ADF) image scanner.
• The choice of OMR scanner depends on the speed of scanning required.

1. Any scanner model with good speed of scanning can be used for OMR Sheet Scanning.

2. For scanning of OMR answer sheets any multi-sheet document feeder Scanner or flatbed image scanner can be used.

3. OMR Software needs no integration with the OMR image scanner. So all models are acceptable. No compatibility issue.

4. OMR sheets can also be scanned on any PC even if it does not have OMR Software.

5. Scanner without special features like colour dropping and duplex scanning can also be used.

6. Photocopier scanners and multi-function-machines can also be used for OMR scanning
